If you are looking for a quick adventure in Port Angeles, this is it! A short drive along the Elwha River will bring you to the Madison Falls parking lot, right across the street from the Elwha.
At this time, this is where the road ends due to a washout farther up the road. If you have a little time after checking out the waterfall, a walk up the road is a popular option.
Depending on the level of the river, you might be able to hike down to the beach along the river right across the street from the parking lot.
A pit toilet is located at the trail head. You will also notice picnic tables in the field, a perfect place for a picnic while listening to the river.
The hike is a short .2 mile hike through forest. The path has a few benches along the way making it a perfect hike for the elderly or those with injuries who aren't able to hike far.
The kids love to explore the giant trees and look for painted rocks along the way.
The short hike ends at at 50 ft. waterfall and shallow pool. There is a bench at the end allowing you to sit and take in the sights. You will feel the spray on your face, which is nice when visiting on a hot day.
Don't forget to snap a few pictures of the creek on your way back. You might find a few small trails leading to the creek as well. Another great place for nature loving kids to explore.
We love to pair this adventure with other adventures, like a trip to Lake Crescent. If you do find yourself heading West on an adventure, Madison Falls is worth the side trip and if it's a summer day, don't forget to stop at Granny's Cafe for one of their locally famous Ice Cream Cones as well!
