With Covid restrictions, a lot of restaurants in the area have chosen to close until the restrictions are lifted or drastically reduce hours and menu offerings. The one business model that is still operating normally (or as close to normal as possible), would be drive through restaurants. You will not see fast-food restaurants on this list but rather places to eat that you won't find the next town over. These restaurants provide yummy food that is easy to pick up for dinner, a picnic or whatever plans you may have.

This restaurant is brand new, opening in 2021. We tried them a couple weeks after they opened and were pleasantly surprised. There menu has American offerings such as Hot Dogs and Chicken Nuggets as well as Mexican Fare like Street Tacos, Burritos and more.
When we visited, we made sure to order a span of (almost) everything. We tried 3 kinds of Street Tacos, Chicken Wings, Fries, and a Bacon Wrapped Hot Dog.
My husband loved the Al Pastor Tacos while I liked the Barbacoa. My son picked apart the Bacon Wrapped Hot Dog, which is typical since he doesn't tend to like the bun and all the fixings. He liked the Hot Dog but it was way too big for him. The fries were delicious as well. We tried their Horchata as well; it was good but admittedly second to the Horchata at Fast Burrito.
I can't wait to see what else they come up with as time goes on, especially once Covid is not longer an issue. We will be back, and next time, we will definitely be ordering dessert.

I am sad to put Togas as 4 on this list since their sandwiches are so delicious, but as far as being kid-approved, it falls a little short. For my husband and I, we love their Schnitzel Sandwich. It is so very delicious with it's cajun mayo- YUM! Over the years we have tried other sandwiches and loved all that we have tried, but we seem to choose the Schnitzel over all else because it is just that good!
We have tried a few soups, such as their Chicken Soup and Chowder and have enjoyed them as well.
They also sell homemade pastries and desserts, and if this review was just based on those, the kiddos would definitely give this place a 2 thumbs up.
We love Togas and when it is just us, it's one of our top sandwich shops in town. However, when out with the kids they choose a different restaurant. The menu offerings at Togas are very sophisticated for lack of a better word and my kids tend to like Grilled Cheese on your typical white bread, simple sandwiches (think turkey, mayo and bread). However, all kids are not the same, if your kids are a little older or have more of a sophisticated pallet, please try this place. It is delicious for sure.

This drive through coffee shop offers some of the best sandwiches in town. We stopped in one day for coffee and we were planning on picking up sandwiches elsewhere when we realized they made sandwiches right there. We decided to give them a try and we were impressed. I was pregnant at the time and since I was advised not to eat deli meat, I had tried Vegetarian Sandwiches from pretty much every place in town. After trying one from Higher Grounds, I will never order another Veggie Sandwich from anywhere else.
You can order from inside or through their drive through window. They have a little paper where you mark all the things you want on your sandwich then is made to your specifications. The kids liked their sandwiches since they were able to put whatever they wanted on it (Turkey and Mayo) and we loved ours since we filled them with all the good stuff.
We also ordered coffee drinks and a couple non-coffee smoothies and they were so yummy too.
This is the perfect place to go to pick up a picnic lunch and a pick-me-up at the same time. In addition to sandwiches and coffees, they also have chips, muffins, breakfast sandwiches, bagels, pastries, spritzers and more.
The only thing that can sometimes be an issue is that the drive through drive way is rather short and this place can get pretty busy. You might have to drive around the building a couple times in order to get in line, or just park and drop in to order. In the end though, it is always said that you can judge a place by how many locals frequent it, so being busy must mean they are doing something right. Check it out.

Firehouse opened a few years ago and blew all other burger joints out of the water. They have all kinds of specialty burgers as well as a choose your own toppings burger. They also have a Chicken Burger, Grilled Cheese, Hot Dog, fries and onion rings and more. They have also added milkshakes to their menu, a must for any burger joint!
They used to offer curly seasoned fries which we loved, but unfortunately they took those off the menu. The regular and waffle fries are delicious as well, especially with a side of their firehouse sauce to dip them in!
The kids love their burgers and fries and especially their milkshakes. We love to pick these up, take them to Ediz Hook and have a picnic in the back of the car before enjoying the beach.

This drive through got our #1 spot because of it's consistency, deliciousness and the fact that the kids always love whatever they order.
With a very large menu, this Mexican Drive Through has something for every appetite. During my second pregnancy, I craved their Chicken Nachos every couple weeks. This last pregnancy, I have tried so many new things on their menu and it all has been so delicious!
Whatever you order, you won't be disappointed. Some of our favorites are their Carnitas Tacos, Chicken Nachos, Shrimp Plate, and Chicken Enchiladas, and the kids always love their tater tots, Quesadillas and Taquitos. Make sure to ask for their spicy carrots and don't forget to order a Horchata. Their Horchata is the best we have had for quite some time and their spicy carrots are so good to nibble on with any dish.
